Escape from the Blake Weekend

Photos Roan Blackburn

We Raced we laughed We learned We Danced and most of all we had fun .
Racing this week with no distractions .  From AC45 America.s Cup Class cats to one design Dragons ,to rap up on one of the oldest oceans in SL Sailing History . To the new water's of the Seychilles Sailing Sims .

Saturday on the edges of the Blake Sea @SRYC
With a huge fleet of one design Dragons we battled in harmony to the first Mark  to the last all in great humor and great camaraderie. In fact it was a One Design Weekend   .

The SL Yacht &Sailing Clubs event today hosted the Free Adriatic Sailing Club a almost forgot little place on the Sea of Fables .
Eleven Nacra 17s lined up today for a Round the island course Sailor from all corners of the Secondlife came to home of SL Sailing the heart of it were it all began before the Super Clubs before the Blake Sea . Ah yes before why is it always the old ways we love to revise yet not interject to daily life . Well this weekend we did . From the AC Open to the Sailor of the year I even snuck a ACA race in and Nemo race . We Sailed with abandonment of politics of management we helped each other .

This Weekend proved another thing we don't' have to stay in the Blake Sea we can Sail outside of grievers outside of Military powers ,,Jets Sea monsters and of course  the propelling missiles of Miami Vice Cigar boats that flash before our bows .

The Sea of Fables or what we all who remember it as the Adriatic and like its namesake  we raced high performance cats today but its was somehow different I cant put my finger on it but it was . One thing we had a free of traffic sea . We had no drama look at me Queens . we had spectators I got several Im's from marina owners how wonderful it was see racing again here .

NO one came in Club colors but we had peace and quiet .  And what had happened ?
Inter-Club is what had happened as I looked around I realized we had someone from just about every Club in SL here . And as I look back at friday was the same and Saturday I just lost count .
Peace has come back to SL Sailing lets hope it stays .

Clever Little Clever

Clever Little Clever
You Clever Little Clever Weekend
It all started with an idea last Saturday on the Ship Rat's dock.

There was very little strategic planning, no month-long invasions of races. There were no behind the dark curtain Calendar Changes. No Yacht Clubs were threatened. A simple "hey what boat we racing next week"? Raif asked. Someone shouted out the Laser. There were few takers, then next the NACRA. Nah, we've done that.

Then that word surfaced "Clever." Who? Clever, who's Clever? Then some German words and then Rene Marine. Rene, her Day Sailor the Clever.

This was a week a week where we had just sailed the Patch - some had to buy, some had to update. We had had the J-class races at Inter-Club. People's pocket books were getting light. Thank God this is virtual sailing, the bill would be somewhat a burden to even Oracle or Team New Zealand with the programs we have been sailing of late.

Then the idea came: let's ask Renee for a demo rezzer. OK its the Clever if we can get a rezzer and even better, more can sail.

It took only one day,,and there it was -a rezzer by Monday. It had race wind in it and a gesture pack . All in just two days we had accomplished a simple idea.

That Sunday we saw the return of the J-class boat at Sl Yacht and Sailing Club's Challenge, the America's Cup vessel of the likes of the Lipton'and Herreshoffs and the Vanderbuilts,

By Monday we were back and the rezzer was ready this time a short race with the Lasers for a quick Olympics and again well attended . And after the Awards we started the Clever trip to Saturday and Sunday.

Thinking of saving everyone some money I thought "why not get one these rezzers at GGYC?" A instant message call and Renee was at the dock with not one but two boats. The Clever and her RM 12 that had not seen a lot attention but is a great build of a boat, a racer's dream.
The Sim is Popping
Saturday arrives and we are again faced with overlapping events . At the last minute, ten minutes before our start, another race is dropped in group. We are now getting used to this bonzi scheduling. Looking around we wondered who would sail that event as there were now 23 boats rezzed here. What - 23 that's the same length of the Clever.

We had one the greatest races this past Saturday again from beginners to the polished sailor. I was a foul happy I was fouling badly, twice, but we raced on. The third race I broke from the pack and tried short tacks to first windward mark. I was alone I had beat the pack up wind - its a runaway I thought. But just as I was patting my self on the backI saw to my lee in the distance a spinnaker. where did this come from? I don't know who it was but they where there having taken the northern route around Crows Nest.

Time to concentrate but I was losing wind around Crows southern route and there seemed to be a wind glitch over there in the sims. (Extreme) 90 degree switch suddenly. Damn. OK back on track. Finishing fourth I was happy but still had the feeling I had sailed a different course. The Clever is a WWC wind driven boat what with all these Bwind go karts out there these days. An enjoyment to sail . A challenge yet easy at the sane time. You can find alot speed in these boats. I didn't even get to the reefing sails.

The Ship Rats Sixth Year
After racing, all enjoyed endless fireworks and dance party at SRYC - what a great bunch of people: no topless, no slobs, no attention taking antics - just real sailors enjoying a well deserved party for their members and all.

Escape the Blake Sunday
As the title states the SL Yacht and Sailing Clubs escaped the Blake again this week visiting the great expanse of a club, the Danshire Yacht Club of Jane Fosset fame and estate owner Elbag Gable.
Clever's sails,, still wet from Saturday were again showing up to take on the coastal waterway down to TYC straight past Rene Marine and into the Dire Strait, back north to our old stomping grounds. Then on to the Bones and into the channel to DYC ,a pretty long course and ambitious for a Sunday.

Sailors from all clubs showed up and I was pleased even with another attempt to overlap events and take sailors away from our event. some 15 sailors and boats showed up. We got ten across the line and a sad five finishing but thatwas pretty good odds.
Peter the Sailor came in first and with a demo boat finishing second Lez had IM'd me during the whole race for instructions of how to sail the Clever and after every instruction she relayed thanks.
Irish Gent had offered a month's slip at The GGYCSL @SechillesIsles sailing estates to the winner and Rene donated a free Clever.

Peter the Sailor offered his winnings to the second place finisher, Lez (she coming in with a demo boat) and we awarded his grand gesture with the slip. No Coast Guard was used for these event,s no seas were shut down, no events overlapped other than the one dropped on ours and guess what else NO DRAMA.

The Sailor of the Year and SL Yachting and Sailing Clubs challenges are a great mix of fun racing, sailors tall stories and great memories.

Made up of a simple agenda" make sailing fun again make sailing free make sailing strong in all waters of the grid." Still some from the outside try to detract it, not support it, disrupt it and even denounce us.

To them we say Shut up and Sail. To those we say Build you programs the old fashioned way - earn it. To those we say sit back and enjoy the wind . Enjoy it before profit, before schemes, before the hate.

Enjoy because one thing like the wind you can't control even though you try to plan to and even spend thousand two.
You can't control free spirited fun, friends and open minded friendship. Our agenda is simple: have fun.

Everyones a Shiprat

Sailor of the Year .

Fourteen Virtual Sailors showed up today on the water of the Blake Sea on the mouth of the Coastal waterway . Fourteen willing and able Sailors from all walks of life here . Don't let the Title fool you .

This is a Sailor event there are grandiose race directors no calm of super powers no super teams .
Just raw fun .

The completive edge comes out on the water . Fourteen Sailors with one goal, lets sail . Sailor of the years is open to all Sailors you don't need a club a team a guru to get you on the water .  There n implemented conflicts no favorite boat class , In fact the boat changes every week .

Fourteen Sailors and not one protest not one argument just the wind and friends . Even with other new to the sailing schedule and one that has been trying everything in there Gurus power to disturb this and many other events in Second-life Sailing. Via Over lapping there events trying to pull this tight group of real Sailors apart . No fourteen people said nay to the hip gurus the to kool for school event busters and foot soldiers of the local land barons and Sailed there hearts out in the Patchogue II
